Holidays in St. Martin
St Martin in Jersey is located on the north east of the island. Available by ferry, this Channel island destination is a quieter Parish perfect for a peaceful Jersey Holiday. St Martin features lots of traditional farm architecture, particularly in the lanes around Rozel and St Catherine. Home to St Catherine is the Breakwater, a massive engineering feat, and Mont Orgueil Castle which was much loved by Sir Walter Raleigh whilst he was governor of the Island between 1600 and 1603. The harbour at Rozel is one of the most picturesque in the Island. Situated within a small and unspoiled cove, it is surrounded by striking woodland and wildlife, which makes it perfect for a relaxing family holiday in Jersey. The area also boasts the ancient castle of Mont Orgueil, a grand attraction in Jersey.
St. Martin is one of the remaining strongholds of Jèrriais (the old language of Jersey, closely related to French) with a distinctive accent. The area around Faldouet formerly possessed a dialect of its own, known as Faldouais, although the Faldouais dialect is extinct, it has left notable amounts of writings in Jèrriais literature.
