Holidays in St. Mary
St Mary in Jersey is one of the most northern and smallest of Jersey's twelve parishes. Situated between St Ouen's and St John's St Mary is great place to enjoy a Jersey Holiday. It originates from a medieval monastery, which was destroyed around the 10th Century during Viking raids. St Mary is the home of Devils Hole; this is a natural crater in the solid cliff formed by the gradual erosion of the rock by the sea waves. It was awarded its name after a figurehead washed up here following a shipwreck nearby. Greve de Lecq beach in Jersey is well worth a visit – here you can watch the fishermen unload their catch from the old pier whilst soaking up the sun on one of the islander's favourite beaches. The coarse golden sand and variety of places to eat, makes St Mary a wonderful area to take a family holiday to Jersey.
The Elms is situated at the St Mary's end of St Peter's Valley. These are the headquarters of the National Trust for Jersey and its wealth of architectural detail is available to the public for viewing on several dates throughout the year.
